Animated gears draw beautiful patterns. You will find this absolutely mesmerizing. It has been described as "Spirograph meets cyberpunk", with many, many effects and patterns possible on only a virtual spirograph.

Kick back and just select "Play Mandalas" to watch an endless array of patterns evolve before your eyes. Or select from the inbuilt library of 44 prebuilt Mandalas, each with dozens of variations.

The really adventurous can make their own Mandalas, the application includes a full editor with which you can change any aspect of any Mandala - add or remove gears and pens (you can have an unlimited number of pens and gears on each Mandala), change pen colors, widths and styles (29 inbuilt pen styles), change any gear size, switch gears from being inner gears to outer gears, and much more.

I am told that some practitioners of neurolinguistic programming use this application to induce altered states of consciousness; while I know nothing else about its use in NLP, I do know that watching this for half an hour can have a profoundly calming effect.

One of the 44 prebuilt Mandala families is called "Why is it so?". Its not a particularly beautiful Mandala, but does contain a puzzle. If anybody can explain "Why is it so?", I would love to know. (Mechanical Mandalas contain mysteries that not even the developers can explain!).
